Comments Thread For: Pacquiao's Win Over Matthysse A Blessing And A Curse

By Corey Erdman - When Manny Pacquiao was in his prime, he was one of the most unstoppable offensive forces the sport had ever seen. The mid-to-late 2000s version of Pacquiao on his best nights could make fights look like a video game in which he was playing against an opponent with a disconnected controller-his foot speed, hand speed, volume and use of angles could frankly be mesmerizing...

If this is article was written to make us feel sorry for a guy whose made close to $200 million dollars in the sport, you can save it. He owes the U.S. government about $80 million dollars and his career earnings should have been more than enough to ensure a financial safety net for several generations of Pacquiaos...especially in the Philippines. He makes his own choices and he chose his path.

          Big Manny fan here.
Always have been and always will be if for no other reason than his humility even with all the success he has had.

          However lets not fool ourselves.
As shot fighters go, Mattyssee was as shot as they come. That he even had a belt, any belt is a crying shame.
He was nothing more than a human punching bag. I suspect we may have seen the last of him after this paycheck.

Its also a shame that a man who has had sooo much success and made millions still has to fight.
Just the money from the Mayweather fight ALONE was enough to make any fighter set for life.
Shame on him if he is still fighting for money!!

This win would be the perfect moment for Manny to walk away from the sport. Too bad it wont happen and too bad it seems he is now surrounded by a bunch of YES men and politicians who will not see fit to tell him to bring down the curtains on his illustrious career.

Oh and by the way I am not sure what "belt" they fought for but the champs in the division are :

          WBO-Terrence Crawford.
          WBA- Keith Thurman.
WBC - Winner between Danny Garcia v Shawn Porter.

Still nice to see a Manny win.

135-147 Manny never fought the top dogs until Mayweather

he fought a lot of mid-level Top Rank jww's

so..... why should he start now ?

Pac is nearly ready to walk out the door, he should make some bucks

Broner could be a good option

Think you have a point here!!

With this old and "domesticated" version of Manny and as "big" names go a fight with Broner should sell.

no matter how many examples there are of rich people failing, there will always be more rich people failing.

1st thing you do when you get that check, make sure YOU pay the taxes.
                not your lawyer
                not your accountant
not your neighbor with a CPA

                YOU !

this way you only have yourself to blame. if youre too ******, call up that tax man and get help. be proactive or in debt/jail.

Matthys was not shot but needs to go back to 140 or retirement! Pacquiao is best when fighting someone his own size..Hatton?
