“But, Arum believes he's making a big mistake - and explained that no boxer has been able to self-promote themselves in a successful manner.”

I’m sorry Bobbie but Bernard Hopkins was quite successful

Bernard Hopkins was a very successful self managed and self promoted boxer

First off let me say Arums a G , best in the game but sh.it he needs to let Manny be free and not be a c.unt about it. Arum probably made in the neighbourhood of 1/4 billion dollars off Mannys name. Just let him go and wish him the best , sh.it maybe act like a human being and help Manny set up a strong team so he can be successful going independent

and he should forget about Lomachenko, there is nothing in that fight for him

Broner would be a better pick
Great idea with Manny fighting Broner

Decent PPV , good $ and a very winnable fight for Manny

Arum and Top Rank are the best for building new talent into marquee names

But when they reach a certain level , Arum and TR aren’t needed

Arum has every right to be bitter at Oscar, at Mayweather, at Cotto, at Manny in regards to breaking off. It was Arum who promoted them and made them stars. All they did is capitalize on the popularity that he created. When Floyd knew that he no longer needed developing - he broke off. Organizing the fights is not promoting a fighter. Where would Loma be now if he went to Mayweather Promotions? Where would GGG be if he went to Rock Nations or sth? These fighters' self-named companies know nothing about the true promotional job of transforming an unknown novice into a cashcow. PBC had insane amount of money - and where are their fighters now? Sitting at laptop tweeting?
Being a good promoter takes more than just taking care of bout logistics. And Arum's concerned about Manny being capable of even that. Somehow I remember Pac's issues with IRS and I believe Bobfather.

I have no problem with Arum being a bit bitter, I understand that. But hacking sure he is not biting his own ass in rage, he is a rich man, top in this business.
          Dude shut the f.uck up

Arums made enough $ off Manny not to be bitter, he doesn’t owe Arum sh.it and at this point Manny should go independent and not just allow Arum to make his next star off Manny name / scalp

            You couldn’t be more wrong....

“A boxing promoter is in charge of setting up and paying for everything involved in a boxing match and making sure all legal requirements are met at every step along the way. The promoter assumes all financial risk associated with the event, whether that means the promoter is paying for the event him- or herself or is securing a number of secondary investors to guarantee the costs are met. And when we talk about costs, we're talking about every single thing involved in a fighting event, from the plastic cups the beer is served in to the chairs for each corner of the ring to the ring itself, the round-number girl, the referee, the ticket sales, advertising, licenses and making sure the scales used for weigh-in are properly calibrated. A big-time promoter will often contract out a lot of the details, while a small-time promoter is probably standing in line at the state boxing commission's office to obtain the necessary licenses for a fight and is measuring the ring dimensions to make sure its up to code. But either way, the promoter is ultimately responsible if anything doesn't meet legal requirements or if something goes wrong and the ambulance isn't waiting right outside the venue with exactly two qualified paramedics.

The fact that the promoter is assuming all of the financial risk in setting up a fight means that he or she also logically expects to get a huge chunk of the profit brought in by that fight. This is where the promoter's interests are directly opposed to the boxer's interests. The promoter and the boxer's manager negotiate the boxer's "purse" for the fight -- how much money the boxer takes home for stepping in the ring. The boxers' respective purses are a cost involved in setting up the fight, just like supplying an ambulance and food vendors are costs. The larger a boxer's purse, the smaller the profit the promoter takes home. So the promoter's financial interests are best served by minimizing the boxer's purse as much as possible, and an unscrupulous promoter will take advantage of a young, hungry boxer who just wants to get in the ring and show what he or she can do. It's up to the manager to make sure the boxer gets a fair chunk of the pie. The promoter has no duty whatsoever to be fair to the boxer.”

No fighter has self promoted themselves successfully? Lol.

DLH, Mayweather, Cotto all handled their careers as free agents. Cotto signed with Roc Nation after being a free agent for a while but if you think about it he was fighting who ever he pleases.
