Comments Thread For: McDermott: Medical Scan Mistake Almost Cost Me My Life!

Dudley's Darren McDermott (17-2-1, 9 KOs) faced a fight to return to full health at the end of his boxing career after picking up a brain bleed while sparring in 2010 yet the former English middleweight titlist did not know that it would also be the beginning of a near decade long battle to find out how a mandatory medical scan failed to pick up on an existing aneurysm prior to the injury.

Terrible story, but on the upside I'm sure the payout he got would have been substantial. Hopefully enough that he can live out the rest of his life in comfort and provide for his family.

I always wonder about private health care providers. How often do they audit their equipment, are the doctors locum?

I know people in this country get down on the nhs (idiots) but I know a few stories about private hospitals that would make your toes curl.

Doubt it. Even a million pounds isn't that much if it's all u got to live on for thirty years supporting a family. That's like making 50k a year for 20 years. Pretty average income

I mean it's not bsd u can meet ur needs and some wants but not worth what he's had to go thru and sacrifice.

Depends. Does the UK tax on lawsuit winnings? If not, and if he invests wisely it could be much better than 50k a year

A million pounds can easily set you for the rest of your life provided that you invest it properly.
