The influx of belts these days is a joke.

Just seen an article on sky sports titled " who rules the boxing world "..

It's a padded bit of ****e with no real info or clarity but its opening line struck.

17 weight divisions... 85 world championship belts from 4 governing bodies not counting meaningless trinkets such as interim belts or silver titles..

What an absolute disgrace. No wonder ducks happen when you have so many avenues of claiming boxing "validity" as a champion.

Fighters like wilder.. Joshua.. Spence.. Crawford etc etc who want to unify are the only thing keeping this absolute ****show of the sport from getting beyond a joke.. that is if it isn't already there.

I was just having this same discussion with my old man. Boxing has way too many belts and it's killing the sport. A so called superfight soon will be equivalent to witnessing halleys comet. Fighters these days can grab a title and barely climb the ranks. Or at all for that matter. Good example recently Vanes Martirosyan by some miracle if he would've pulled off an upset against ggg made him the middleweight champion. I know boxing is a business but there will be no business in the future if it keeps going this direction. Nobody is hungry, everybody is a diva. There's no grind or sacrifice with these fighters if getting a title is this easy. No competing, no interest. No interest, no fans. No fans, no money. No money, no more boxing.

I agree. No two weight classes should be only 3 pounds apart. We sure don't need 4 alphabet places each with their own champions and rankings that are completely different from each other. To make things worse some have champions, super champions and interm champions etc. When there is a fight for a vacant title it's often between two boxers who aren't even worthy of being in the top 10 let alone fighting for the new world title.

          Oh it's already there, brother.

As Thomas Hearns said, in his day, the best fought each other.

They don't have to now. There are so many belts that anybody can be a belt-holder and "claim" to be the best while avoiding the dangerous opponents on their level.
