  • Comments Thread For: Gilberto Ramirez May Remain at 168 For 1-2 Years, Then 175

Gilberto Ramirez (38-0) may have dominated Roamer Angulo (23-1) Saturday night in his ESPN headlining fight but it wasn't easy. The final scores were 120-108 and 119-109 twice but the 26-year-old's trainer Hector Zapari said that getting down to the 168 pound super middleweight limit is starting to affect the nearly 6'3" Ramirez's performances in the ring.

Zurdo is going to have the same problem getting fights @ 175. TR has Gvozdyk, and that's it! Unless Bob let's Zurdo go to another network for a big fight, like HBO let Linares go to ESPN for Lomachenko, then Zurdo will not have a great career!

No different than with Murata in Japan (grab that secondary WBA belt, fight at home, and make absolutely zero effort to go after the full title), what's to stop Arum from positioning Zurdo to get the WBC silver belt and then defending that belt in California and Texas, as if it's a full championship, until forced into a tough fight?

I guess Bob's (Top Rank) only strategy is purse bids. That, to me, is a good strategy if you're willing to win the purse bid! If not, what's the purpose?

... I had high hopes for Zurdo... I wish he fights the winner of the Ali Trophy in the U.K.

I would love to see him fight Groves.
I seriously believe Groves would bust him up badly. Bob would never make that fight, cherry picked bum of the month is what it's going to be 🍒

I doubt it's even that; Joe Tessitore was on national TV, spending a good 40 minutes, trying to convince the world that Lenny Z and Saucedo were in the fight of the year, when that hasn't even been the best fight on ESPN this year, nevermind anywhere else.

Top Rank is the same company that's deliberately slowwalking the Ramirez-Prograis fight at the same time that rush Stevenson-Gvozdyk.

The plan is likely more sinister than that

Bob Arum is pure cancer for the sport of boxing. Look at both Ramirez fighters steering them well
Clear of big names. In the end he's a greedy businessman. All the big names of the past broke free of him.
                    That alone tells a story.
