This confirms Ali (a blown-up welter) was setup to face a drained light-heavy weight on short notice.

You know what this tells me? Oscar doesn’t want Munguía to get any where near his cash cow Canelo. This kid Munguía is big and powerful and could pose problems for Canelo once he starts peaking. Oscar seems to want to get him to keep him away from Canelo lol. I’d love to see a Munguía Canelo clash down the road.

Lmaooo at everyone thinking that golden boy is doing big things. This is a desperation move. Oscar has been desperate ever since Haymon jacked 95% of his stable and he probably senses that the Canelo train won't be going much further, especially in the mw division. There is nothing Oscar can provide Munguia with other than a fight with Canelo which Oscar wouldn't do for another 3 yrs any way. All of the fighters that matter for Munguia aren't with golden boy and aren't likely to do business with him.

Mungia is tailor made for Canelo.. slow & plodding.. wide open for counter shots

I thought the same thing when I saw this kid the Demolish Ali!
Imagine a fight between Canelo and this new prospect in about three years down the line... I mean he’s only 20 years old he has plenty of time to develop not to mention he is one heavy hitter! Good luck to GBP taking JM from zanfer promotions & sr. Fernando Beltran...
But I do think you are right on the money Golden boy promotions is trying to protect Canelo on the long run.
