But why then back-peddle from the exchange if getting the better of it ?

Canelo picked his spots to exchange then exited, ie did not 'stand' and trade. Running to some, smart boxing to others. To stand and trade would mean staying in the pocket and continuing to trade once golovkin had his feet set. Canelo doesn't need to take that risk if he can continue to hit and run with some success.

The thing is, Canelo showed excellence in short bursts, GGG did the entire fight. Canelo could only trade for a few rounds but triple G was relentless the entire fight and he could probably continue for a few more rounds after the fight. This is why you don't see people standing and trading with him. You cannot keep up with that let alone match the power.
