  • Comments Thread For: Crawford-Spence is Impossible To Do Without PPV, Says Arum

The potential unification match-up between IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence (24-0, 21 KOs) and WBO titlist Terence Crawford (33-0, 24 KOs) is one of the very best that can be made in the sport of boxing. After both scored emphatic victories the past couple of weeks, there is now a clamoring for the two to collide.

Crawford got $4M guarantee on ESPN how did that happen?

Both guys are getting $3-4M a fight it has to be a PPV or someone like DAZN can put up the money

It's the best fight that can be made in boxing and has the added bonus of being an event that could get African American kids excited about the sport again.Every boxing fan should want this

If Crawford earned $3 million against Horn, you figure it will take $4-5 million to satisfy his demands against Spence.

They put it on ESPN+, this was known for months. ESPN is rolling out their subscription service and used Crawford Horn to boost subscriptions. If only 100,000 signed up to Espn+ because of the Crawford Horn fight that is about $6 million a year for Espn. Big money, Netflix spends well over a billion a year for original content because of the huge revenues and ESPN will do the same

Then all that has to happen is for Garcia-Porter winner agree to fight him.

You see Spence has been calling for a shot at the WBC title for literally years. He isn't paying thousands or tens of thousands when he doesn't have to.

I would like to see Loma enroll in VADA. Loma seems to want to fight everyone except for the WBC champs. That is odd.

If Spence is juicing why is he so intent on fighting for the WBC belt and enrolling in it???

I get it though, Spence is with Haymon and is p4p Champ. You need to say something degrading, and he is so damn good, you can't say anything about his skills.

                  It does about 300-400K buys.
Not like they will earn huge money.

That is the hope. I don't think the numbers are too good though; that is why they have not said anything about how many subscriptions there are and/or how many watched the Horn-Crawford fight.

They literally made this app to try and pay Bud. ESPN can't pay Bud $2 million or more and pay an opponent too. hbo got tired of paying for Bud mismatches, Arum tried to put him on ppv. It bombed. It lost TR a lot of money. Less than 50k buys. hbo dumped TR because of the mismatches.

espn can't pay millions for fights on regular espn. If enough people don't buy these $5 ppvs, Bud is screwed. Daddy Arum won't allow him to fight on any other network and espn aren't paying $3 million a more per fight.

They didn't use Horn-Crawford to boost sales, they created ESPN+ to try and pay Bud. That is also why the fake hand injury. ESPN+ wasn't ready yet.

You see, Horn was champ, and so if it went to a purse bid, he woulda had 70% of the purse. So TR needed to pay him over a million to avoid the purse bid and Horn getting a 70-30 split in his favor. espn couldn't afford this.
