No, not from a business / financial standpoint. There isnt a business consultant on the planet who works in boxing that would advise GGG to fight Derevyanchenko for almost 10% of what he would make against Canelo, hence the risk vs reward common sense approach. GGG's team knew exactly what they were doing by not risking the Canelo fight and now they have that huge payday lined up.
being a champion brings responsibilities
Golovkin has mentioned those responsibilities repeatedly
Golovkin: I chose Dominic Wade because he’s my IBF mandatory

sometimes, you actually have to get your hands dirty in this game
what you just admitted..... is that Golovkin is ALL about risk/reward (like I have ALWAYS said).....
..... and you essentially stated that ducking a mando for better money is perfectly acceptable..... and boxing fans never used to talk like thatComment

During the time he fought Wade, he was not solidifying a deal for one of the biggest fights in boxing at the time for his biggest payday nor was Wade considered a threat to that huge payday or he would have changed his tune, like any fighter would, regarding any talk of responsibilities to mandatories and given anything for the big payday. Again, yes, it is about business first. A lot of fighters have good principles but those principles can be bought and sold on the open market when it is convenient to them. Good thing he and his team didnt listen to all the boxing business experts on here who said he should be happy with 30%! Cause he and his team proved to be smarter than the "experts" here which is stating the very obvious cause a lot of people here are writing posts - while GGG and his team are signing multi-million dollar deals. Good thing team GGG didnt put up a poll asking the amazing financial experts on here what he should do regarding the canelo fight cause he would have lost millions because of these fine experts we have right on this site that are ready to jump in and help. As to the fight, I have no clue who wins this one. So many variables with temperament, different judges, maybe a different fight plan for one or the other or both.being a champion brings responsibilities

so..... those fighters do not have good principles at all, or even close
my main point was
until Golovkin..... I had never heard 1 single fan state that money is a justifiable reason to avoid your mandatory
not once, EVER !
just the opposite
Golovkin fans - you included? - TORCHED Canelo for vacating his belt, when Team Bullshht were refusing to negotiate in good faith by attempting to manipulate Canelo into an undeserved 45% split by forcing a purse bid
and btw, Canelo continued to negotiate with Golovkin, but that negotiation died over the weight..... same as the last negotiation
whereas Golovkin made no effort whatsoever to negotiate with Derevyanchenko..... he was given an exemption to allow the Vanes debacle to proceed, but he refused to commit to Derevyanchenko in writing
Golovkin's principles were not sold..... they were mythicalComment

when did money become a justifiable reason to duck your mando?
nope, NOT with Canelo..... because AFTER he vacated the WBC strap, Canelo continued to negotiate with Team Bull****..... those talks died because the two sides were unable to agree upon weight
..... and after moving up to 160, Canelo fought Golovkin..... and now he is about to fight him again..... so yea, that rubbish did not start with CaneloComment

Every fighter has mythical principles. Money changes everything. One guy in Canelo gave up his title to at that time avoid the bigger fight and the other guy GGG gave up his title to fight the bigger fight. Different situations, different levels of backlash. As long as they clear up their reputation and legacy, thats what matters in the end.so..... those fighters do not have good principles at all, or even close
