How would you honestly rate Golovkin?

I grew up playing Madden. You are just a bit over the top with the Madden gauge. And please stop with Gatti. Gatti was a decent fighter who wasn’t even close to elite. Again DLH destroyed him five years earlier and stopped him earlier.

I do not disagree with you about being able to watch an athlete and see how special they are.

And this is why Golovkin is a +90 fighter. It is why the overwhelming amount of people who cover boxing rank him as excellent (A level). His competition has not been great but people see a top level fighter. They see what he has done in the ring and who avoided him. It is clear the guy is top notch to people in boxing. There is a very small fringe, mostly people like you who have no voice beyond a forum like this, who believe otherwise.

No one is saying that Gatti is elite; keeping to the Madden comparison, recall that I called him maybe an 81 Madden RB.

Still, Golovkin has fought a few fighters that can objectively be rated as good (using the same Madden scale, I think that it'd be fair to rate Jacobs, Alvarez, and Brook at at least being 85+ Madden RBs), and we've seen how Golovkin has performed in those fights.

Unless I have Alvarez and Jacobs misrated, which is possible, a 90+ guy doesn't fight to 50/50.

He gets another chance in September, but if Golovkin again looks how he looked in the first fight, either Alvarez actually is a 90 (using the Madden RB scale) or my eyes haven't failed me.

I think he's an A class fighter. I don't think he's the greatest of all time but he has all of the fundamentals with incredible durability. He also has decent speed coupled with a stiff, accurate jab. He's also rocking a sick package and thudding power.

He's a brilliant fighter, willing to fight anyone, no bull****.

Better defense than people talk about. Switches his feet which some think is unconventional.

the problem here is, youare saying hes "golden" with 4 fights and wins that arent likely for a 36 year old

he has canelo problems in september....he did nothing in the first fight to suggest he wins easily in a rematch.....then you are assuming a 36 year old goes through the gambit of a jacobs rematch, bjs and charlo...in fact if he got even two of those fights after, canelo and came away with wins, i would be suprised....he def isnt getting all 4 of them and coming away with wins in all of them....

canelo went into that first fight a bit timid....canelo had never been in with a puncher like that...he was a welter and a jr welter....this time i doubt hes as intimidated.....thats going to be a tough fight right there....one im not sure golovkin comes away with a win in....if he loses this fight(and there has to be some doubt even in golovkins fans) you cant forget "golden"....stop looking so far ahead and trying to tie a legacy to 3 future fights he will never take

Great but also flawed fighter. He benefited from a weak middleweight era and he luckily never had to face a real elite boxer who could expose his deficiencies. Canelo is the closest to a top level elite boxer he faced but he didn't have the work rate to fully capitalise on his advantages.

But Golovkin has been dominant for a long time and his strengths are obvious to all, immense power, ability to cut off the ring well, body punching, chin that could survive a nuclear level detonation unscathed. Any fighter that has been dominant for so long even in a weak era has to be seen as a great, consistency counts for something.

He falls short of the achievements of some of the other great middleweights because he either doesn't have the resume they had or he failed to go up and show how good he really in a higher weight class against better comp. But he still has time, I think he could easily move up and dominate super middle.

It is extremely rare that a reigning Middleweight champion moves up a division.

It is extremely rare that a reigning Middleweight champion moves up a division.

And when they move up, it's usually after getting the lineal title..........which GGG is literally about to do

elite fighter but unfortunately not going to go down as an all time great. BUT the drama show isnt over yet, hes still got time to add to his achievements. id like to see him line them up one after the other, canelo, saunders, charlo and call it a day.
