sure, he had just recovered from surgery, and at 37 was unlikely to become prime again. GGG might well beat him.But multiweight champion Cotto was surely seen as much tougher prospect than IBO titlist GGG, so he wasnt ducking GGG.

Martinez said he wasn’t ready for Golovkin at the time. Which was understandable given his injury. He also had the chance to make a lot more money. I don’t blame him for taking the Cotto fight. I have little doubt Martinez would have fought Golovkin, it just didn't work out.
