Always candid, always refreshing, IBF mandatory challenger and #1 rated Edison "Pantera" Miranda has spoken out on last Saturday's middleweight championship draw between Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright. For the latest on Miranda's upcoming title shot against Arthur Abraham, plus why Pantera will enter the ring with Carlos Quintana of Puerto Rico and not Joel Julio from his native Colombia, read on...
Comments On The Taylor / Wright Fight:
Pantera was not at all impressed with either fighter. He personally thought Wright won the fight, but says he was surprised at how bad Taylor looked. "Taylor went in there with a guy that has no power and was pushed backwards the entire night. Taylor showed no boxing skills whatsoever, and it's an embarrassment that we have to see this guy as the middleweight champion."
In his opinion, Pantera thinks that either fighter would hit the canvas in a fight against him. "I would pound at Winky's body with power like he's never felt before and then hit him with left and right hooks to the head – Taylor couldn't do any of that. He was content with hitting Winky's gloves and arms."
Pantera thinks that Taylor wouldn't last more than 5 rounds with him. "He supposedly has this power, but apparently it's not that strong because it didn't even bother Winky. All I can say is that if this guy gives me a shot after I beat Abraham, he better change his entire style. Otherwise, his head will be rolling into the stands by the middle of the fight."
Update on Arthur Abraham Fight:
The IBF Middleweight title fight between Miranda and Abraham is currently set for a purse bid on June 27th. As per the IBF, the fight must take place no later than September 27th. The winner of the purse bid will set the exact date and location. After beating Abraham, Pantera says he wants a shot at Taylor.
Pantera to enter ring with Puerto Rican (not Colombian) on HBO:
This Saturday, June 24th, Carlos Quintana of Puerto Rico will face Joel Julio of Colombia on HBO for a WBA welterweight eliminator. Although Pantera is loyal to his native country of Colombia, he has decided to enter the ring with his good friend, Carlos Quintana of Puerto Rico. Miranda, now a full time resident of Puerto Rico, made the tough decision to show his support for Quintana as opposed to Julio. "Yes, I was born in Colombia, but now I live in Puerto Rico, and I have many friends here. Carlos is a good friend of mine and we share the same trainer, Jose Bonilla. I wish Julio the best of luck as he represents Colombia, but I will cheering for Quintana all the way."
