Comments Thread For: Tony Bellew Gives High Praise To Former Foe David Haye

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, David Haye has announced his retirement from boxing at the age of 37. The former WBA heavyweight champion insisted he would stop fighting if he again lost to Tony Bellew in their rematch last month, and having shown significant signs of decline before being stopped in five rounds he has confirmed he no longer plans to fight on.

A man who made me win money by betting against him in both fights.

Haye ten years ago was the best cruiser since holyfeild and would beat usyk or gassiev in a few rounds if you had a rewind button but the party life played its part a career never fulfilled toodles the man with the best nickname in boxing (hayemaker)

Despite their animosity, Bellew issued some touching thoughts to his former rival.

"I wish him well and would like to thank him for the opportunity in the first fight," said Bellew to Sky Sports.

"He has had a fabulous career and will go down as one of the all-time British greats. Despite the pre-fight hype, I can assure you I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Tony. Whenever I traded punches with him, and whenever I was in his presence, I felt the inner warrior.

"I saw a man who would take the battle as far as necessary to get victory; a man who, like myself, would rather die than give up or quit; a man I'd want on my side of the battlefield if going to war."

Of course Bellew is going to praise Haye, it legitimizes him andlets be honest --- it put a lot of money in his accounts. Truth is Haye was a fraud. This is a day of celebration, no more bullshít from a poser to read.

Predictably 2 of the worst fights ever but they secured his retirement fund.

Sorry to interrupt you while you ride the mans dyck but haye did not fight any cruisers as good as Gassiev or Usyk. Cruiser was very weak when he was there. His best win was probably Chisora.

When you make something about money instead of the passion for doing it, it shows you how easy it is to lose it all. He had a brilliant career until he tried to scam boxing and boxing fans some years ago. He lost nearly everything through infidelity and living outside of his means (the bounced check to the Dubai boxing academy in his name wasn't the finest moment). Luckily the late 30's isn't old at all and Haye's got some money in the bank again from his final two shellackings. He'll still live a comfortable low 6 figure life from promoting and appearances. It ain't the Ritz, but not too shabby when you think about it.
