Rematch wasnt needed or wanted. Neither guy can hurt each other or have any significant change of pace or game plans. Showtimes numbers are sad really. I know its trendy to say " how about the stream" but until they figure out how many ppl actually watch stream over showtime channel then these numbers have to be indicative of what kind of numbers of ppl watching. And thats sad. Make fights worth watching and ppl will pay the low fee to watch. Put on charlo vs hurd and LSC vs Mares, garcia vs rios and theyll stay around these numbers. Pretty simple

The Staples Center was packed, so just because some ratings that don't factor in streaming views, doesn't say much. I've haven't seen a Showtime fight on cable in 2 years. I've been watching them through their Showtime streaming app. Can people say that Crawford fight did over a million views? Nobody knows. ESPN and Showtime fight ratings can be taken with a grain of salt. I believe Showtime has around 5 million subscribers to their streaming app. ESPN also allows you to watch fights via their app. HBO ratings are really telling because they don't allow you to stream live fights via their streaming app. However, you could stream a fight on HBO through DirectTV streaming app. But I believe those ratings are counted as cable views by Nielsen.

Showtime is doing fine. Nielsen ratings don't mean much. The Staples Center was packed and as for Showtime, their streaming service subscriptions have been on the rise. They had a few million people subscribe in the past year from what I read. I've been watching Showtime fights via the streaming app for about 2 years now. Look at some of HBO fights, their numbers are always high because they offer no live streaming unless u stream through your cable provider app. Their fights might get a lot of views but you look at some of the attendance for those fights. They aren't bringing in that much in revenue.

Don’t get the negativity from the writer or from the people posting

First off No sh.it less people watched on Showtime compared to ESPN l, why does Keith IDec feel the need to point that out in the first sentence

Decent numbers for showtime and it did 12-13k attendance how can people sh.it on that

the people b.itching and crying about a rematch between top 5 guys who previously had a FOTY candidate and want to pump the tires when Crawford beats the brakes off a scrub who probably won’t be heard of again unless he’s used as a B-side to get beat down again have their priorities all f.ucked up

I agree. I didn't love the rematch, but Mares did just win a belt. This gives Leo 2 belts with Valdez and GRJ having the other 2. Now I'm sure we'll see GRJ vs Leo by the end of 2019.

Cruz/Mares could fight 10 times and Rd 1 is going to look the same as Rd 120. No knockdowns, no drama, no intrigue....

I wonder if Mares will retire after this?
