I dislike the open scoring because as Max Kellerman puts it. Sometimes the scoring in a fight doesn’t reflect the story of the fight. Sometimes a guy can be winning rounds by a razor thin margin, but taking just as if not more punishment than he’s dealing out. So theoretically, a guy could be up 6-2 in the cards, but feel like he’s in an even fight or even down. And it can totally change his approach down the stretch. Turning what has been a barn burner into a marathon.

if a fighter and/or his corner are so out of touch with whats ACTUALLY going on in a fight, they deserve to lose.

Charlo is the fresher fighter and is really been training and taking his career seriously as of late. I have Charlo stopping Trout late or winning by 8 rounds or so.

This is tru. If fights are close then that should give them the extra oomph needed to win. Or even fights like this Trout should of been looking for the homerun once he knew he needed a TKO. He didnt and was content on losing. Ive seen many fights where a boxer knows hes losing and comes back to TKO the other guy. Weve seen it time and time again.

Just like in any sport. Trout knew he was down 0-3 in a 7 game series and got swept. He preferred that then getting dropped again.

Well Said! He KNEW the score. His entire CORNER knew the score and they stuck to the same plan that kept them LOSING. You cant feel sorry for soneone who knows the score and then just gives up.

The open scoring killed the fight. Trout knew where he stood and did jack sht about it. Canelo also Bambi-legged him a couple of other times. He was cool losing by decision. He played it safe and kept running on 4th and long.

hmmm, interesting perspective considering trout outlanded Canelo in total and power punches thrown & landed in 2 of the final 3 rounds. Overall he outlanded Canelo by 30 punches, outlanded Canelo in 7 of 12 rounds and there was only 1 more power punch landed by Canelo than trout.

Trout-Cotto is one of those fights that the powers that be pretend didn’t happen. All in the name of preserving the star fighters that were beaten. So that they can make big events with them later. Fights like Zahir Raheem outclassing Erik Morales between Erik’s first and second fights with Manny. And Chris John beating JMM.

Cotto walked away from the pasting Trout gave him and was handed a middleweight title shot against a crippled champion that was cashing out. In a division he’d never fought in. And parlayed that into a mega event with Canelo. Trout on the other hand lost a fight to Canelo that I thought he deserved the decision. Got whipped by Lara. And basically has become a gatekeeper. Boxing can be a cruel and unfair game at times.

Yup, nothing new though. Boxing is definitely a business unfortunately before being a sport. They are going to elevate whoever fills arenas and puts people in seats before anything else.

i know boxing isnt like any other sport and the ''purists'' want to keep it that way. but it is a sport, regardless.

and youre right about how other sports handle knowing the score. they either fold or try and overcome the deficit. i laugh at how other sports would handle not knowing the scores.

Trouts career could've been very different had he beaten Canelo. He looked to be out boxing canelo but wasn't getting credit from the judges. He knew he was behind due to open scoring so he got aggressive and got dropped. It was all downhill for his career from that moment.

Are we back to the same S**t? Trout connected 22% of his shots, compared to Canelo's 49% yes Trout double Canelo in shots but he missed 80% of them end of the story.
