Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo-Jacobs Deal in Play, No 50-50 For Golovkin

Canelo vs anyone on Mexican Independence weekend is a PPV fight. Even if it sells 600k Canelo probably gets a 90/10 split or Jacobs gets a flat fee with little to no PPV upside. Plus that weekend the television money for Mexico all goes to Canelo. He probably makes just as much or just less with him getting the majority.Comment

I think the risk of him or Canelo losing is real. Maybe he thinks the fight can wait but I would rather not risk it.
Hopefully both guys engage in meaningful fights going forward.Comment

God I hope Jacobs wins and then when canelo begs him for a rematch jacobs takes his ball and goes home, or gives GGG a rematch instead LMAOOO would be KARMA.Comment

The reason I don't buy any of this is because Canelo and Golden Boy makes more money with Golovkin at 50/50 than they do against virtually anyone else. Even if they by some miracle can get 800k PPV buys against Jacobs at 70/30, that's 800k*$70 = $56m / 2 =~28m * 70% = 19.6m
Golovkin at 50/50, even if you go conservative and project only 1.2m PPVs, you're looking at 1.2m*$70 = 84m/2 = 42m * 50% = 21m.
And the important part to note is that those are very conservative estimates for Golovkin and highly optimistic for Jacobs. Canelo sells 300-500k PPVs against non-PPV fighters (Khan & Smith). I don't think Jacobs is nearly as popular as Khan. If you take a shot in the dark and say Jacobs will do somewhere between them, you're looking at 400k PPVs which generates Canelo less than $10M.
On the opposite spectrum is Golovkin rematch. The post fight has had a LOT of talk and a lot of drama, it got built up very well over the past 9 months. Realistically, it can hit 2M buys. Let's say it's slightly under that, 1.8m PPVs. Due to the magnitude of the fight, they can also charge a higher price for it (remember $100 for Floyd-Pac?). Say it's $80 for HD instead of 70. All of a sudden you're looking at $80*1.8m = $144m / 2 = $72m * 50% = $36M.
If you're not interested in the math, the short story is that everyone says that Golovkin is in the twilight of his career and can not walk away from $25-30M he's scheduled to make against Canelo. Well at 50/50%, the opposite applies to Canelo - he's also looking at same $25-30M, something he can't do against any of the current opponents.
Both guys are going to make good money if they keep winning. Since they apparently aren't going to fight I just hope, and no excuses they should, face top quality competition.Comment

More than 50/50 with GGG most likely. Dont really care either. GGG killed the fight move on. Worry about who GGG fights next. Hope its not another Vanes type.
But who knows?? Maybe it will be another no hoper praying that Jacobs/Canelo tanks and they come crawling back to GGG saying 50/50 does now seem fair.Comment

Stop hating fool! Canelo will never give any fighter 50% of the money in a fight against him. I don't care how many piece of shet belts the other fighter has. When your the biggest star in boxing the way Canelo is you can do that. That's a fact! So run along and go cry about it little boy!Comment

GGG is gonna have to fight his mandatories next. Charlo or Derev. He can loose a belt either way. Stripped or by a L. No more fighting cans.Comment
