How did Showtime make money back from Floyd Mayweather ???

Showtime invested 250M into Mayweather back in 2013. How did they make this money which made it a good buisness descison. I thought tv companies only take a little from a Fight Generated ? So from the Outside it looks like Showtime lost a lot of money

Serious Question, Tv Companies only take a small share from a PPV Fight.

its a silly premise, like asking how did Showtime make money on "Homeland" or "Shameless".

Yes, Showtime only made small percentages off Floyds PPVs, probably barely enough to cover their production expenses. But thats not the point when it comes to premium cable. They dont look at it like free broadcast stations who have to sell commercials to offset their investment. Showtime considered the Floyd deal to be a value-add for their network that might attract new subscribers. Personally I think that is ******ed, since his fights were on PPV anyways and not regular Showtime.

But its irrelevant. Showtime felt it added to their subscriber base and their brand, so for them it made sense.

It hasn't though, they are still a good few millions behind HBO. Got Mayweather when he was at his declining period in terms of entertainment and fighting style...Showtime lost out a lot of money on that 250M and did not make a PROFIt on him which is the aim of any buisness.

Floyd was an investment for future profits, Hell they even have Joshua fighting on there now

What future profits ? It's been a LOSS since Day 1, as Showtime only get a small cut from the revenue
