    Boxers who should be remembered

Easy question. This isn't about fighters who let you down. This is about fighters where they never got a chance to go all the way to where you felt they could have gone - for whatever reason, death, injury, illness, whatever.

For me...it's Maravilla: Sergio Martinez, who I honestly felt was just a brilliant fighter that somehow declined overnight. To this day it's stunning how hard he got pushed by JCC Jr, a guy who would later be synonymous with the word lazy.

Martinez was always overrated. When a guys flashy and fun to watch people always overhype them. Struggled to beat guys he should have walked through. Martinez would have lost to guys like Jacobs/Quillin/Pirog/GGG/Lee/Sturm,Lemule.

See, I disagree that he was overrated. Completely. I think he was a solid fighter whose body gave out before his mind. I believe firmly that a 100% physically solid Martinez walks completely through Cotto - and the whole landscape would have been different for 154. I'm not sure Canelo would have gotten past him - I think it would have been a repeat of how Floyd beat him.

But it's that "what if" about Martinez that intrigues me.

As far as Pirog, another solid fighter that I feel wouldn't have lasted 6 against Golovkin. Pirog never fought anyone of real note except Jacobs, and Jacobs was outboxing him leading up to the KO.

That said, I agree that Pirog should definitely be remembered as a good fighter that never reached the potential they could have reached.
