    Manny Pacquiao ATG status declining?

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao rose to fame plowing through several weight classes with his blazing speed and ferocious power.
The last few years we have seen Manny Pacquiao turn in some lackluster performances along with being brutally KO’d. With tax issues and senator duties it seems as if his mind is not 100% on boxing. Should the great Manny Pacquiao hang the gloves up like TBE and Calzaghe before he hurts his legacy? He currently ranks #4 in BoxRec's ranking of the greatest pound for pound boxers of all time. Which brings me to my next question. Does losses matter to Pacquiao legacy?
There is an old saying in boxing “you’re only great as your last fight”

    it'll go 50/50

some people think RJJ severly tarnished his image. Others don't think what he did later should affect his accomplishments.

so basically, similar thread, new fighter. 40 pages, nobodies opinion will change haha

He had already been knocked out 2 times in his younger days so I would say no

It shouldn't but its the Roy Jones effect. You can take a beating like Ali did and then finally call it a day and people will remember the great. Going on and on looking worse and worse starts to chip away at public perception.

Depends who he losses to and how, most people thought he beat Horn, and the Matthysse fight is close to 50/50, pac is a slight favourite.

Even if he's KO'd brutally by Lucas it shouldn't affect his legacy, because Lucas is a murderous puncher.

If he goes on to lose to a bunch of journeyman and prospects then yeah obviously..

You said it shouldn’t in your first sentence but in the last sentence you typed, “Going on and on looking worse and worse starts to chip away at public perception”.

So do you agree or disagree or are or you on the fence?

I think he should keep fighting. For example Duran, a guy Manny is compared to by some, had a huge win late in his career over Davey Moore that offset the losses.

Maybe if Manny fought a Crawford or Spence and managed to pull out a legit win like Duran did then IMO that would offset any lingering doubt about his status that was lost when he crapped the bed against Floyd and then lost to Horn (i had him beating Horn myself).

f#ck no. most of your favorite boxers fought for too long and took losses to lesser fighters. that's the nature of this sport! read up on it if you don't believe me. leonard, ali, tyson, robinson, jones, charles, duran, virtually all of the greatest of the great fighters fit this bill!

your losses don't take your wins away. youguys really don't understand this sport in a historic context, which is totally fine, if you don't get that! just understand that you evaluate a boxer based on what he did when he was at his best, not how he lost when he was not.

if you care to, look at the records of ali, robinson, etc when they were in the final years of their careers. you'll see a lot of losses. does losing to trevor berbick when he was showing signs of parkinsons diminish any of ali's wins, the ones that made him arguably the best boxer of all time? not in my book!

would he lose to them in his prime? and do those losses take away his wins?

if you answere d no i can't imagine why you'd give a **** when you're ranking the guy historically.

ray robinson is the consensus greatest fighter of all time along with ali.

want to take a look at the end of robinson's career for me? want to tell me why you think those losses, after 150-200 fights and when he was broke and boxing for money, have any baring at all on the greatest career in the sport?
