Comments Thread For: Virgil Hill Discusses The 175 Landscape, Stevenson vs. Jack

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Virgil Hill knows a good light heavyweight when he sees one. After all, the Missouri native-turned-North Dakotan was among the world's best 175-pound fighters for more than a decade across the 1980s and '90s, while laying the foundation for an International Boxing Hall of Fame induction with a pair of championship reigns and 20 successful title defenses. So when it came time for last weekend's get-together...

Nice, quick analysis of a decent fight. Hill was pretty dang good. I am ashamed to admit I kind of had let his career slip my mind. He seems to be a teacher of the sport now.

But really.... Haven't we all given up on Kovalev and Stevenson? I could care less whose fault it was, they both allowed a career building fight not happen.

Just re-watched Virgil vs Leslie Stewart when he won his first title, and the Kinchen fight. Saw 'em live on TV back in the day. Virgil was always a fun fighter to watch.

I always liked Hill. He was a solid LHW. Can never think of him without remembering him writhing around on the ring canvas in pain after Jones broke his rib with a straight right hand.

Yeah, it's sad that a Hall of Fame career is kinda boiled down to that in most of our minds, but when that happened it was just so incredible.

It's probably the most defining moment of both of their careers.

Tommy Hearns greatest perfomance was when he schooled Hill. Outstanding.
