Comments Thread For: Gary Russell: I Want To Unify Next or Move Up in Weight

I think it's going to be difficult securing those matches for the following reasons -
Warrington will be fighting Frampton likely at the end of the year
Santa Cruz fights every 8-9 months and every other fight is a tune-up. He won't be doing any unifications until late 2019 and that's more likely to be Frampton III
Valdez is with Top Rank and they won't be doing business with Haymon over this fight
The earliest I see for a unification for him is late 2020 and even then if it's Santa Cruz-Frampton III I think the winner of that is more likely to test the waters at 130. Russell will find it hard getting these fights. I hope he's serious about being more active because he's a great talent and will make for great fights I'd hate for him to keep to his one fight a year schedule.

Russell withstood a vicious body attack against Diaz, the bigger guy. He may have problems getting any of the champs at 126 to fight him. I think Davis would fight, but that is a very tough fight for Russell. He would be giving up a big size advantage.

He's pretty small for this weight, let alone moving up. Let's just focus on fighting more than once a year, Gary lol

Gary is in a tough position. He kinda has a "Midget" physique. Short arms and legs, long torso and big head. He is a small 126 pound guy but since he has a long torso, he struggles making weight. 130 will probably be better for his body, but he should never go higher than that. He would give up way too much size advantage.
