(In a related note, many were trying to say Floyd was The Man at 140 for much the same reasons over Hatton, even though in that case I really do think they have to prove it in a ring).
The current state of Welterweight is in a transition, in a manner of speaking. Not many see Baldomir keeping his title for very long and this is why Gatti chose him over Margarito. Baldomir is the weakest title holder of this division. Margarito is too risky for any marquee fighter to challenge.

So, to add to this thread and to redeem my misunderstanding , Baldomir is the linear champ as well as Ricky Hatton. Ironically, the non-linear champ happens to be the most feared. Poor Margarito, again he's left out in the cold.

Callazo is out of the picture until he challenges for the title again.

Edit - I need to proof read my grammar more often.

Oh, I do agree with you, Baldomir won't hold on to the linear championship for long (part of me hopes he will, love for the underdog and all that...) but he must still be acknowledged rather than a pick 'em between several parties, all of whom have various claims on the prize.

That's all fine and well if you believe Callazo beat Hatton; but last time I checked Carlos Baldomir was the man with the gold at 147....and, to my knowledge, Callazo hasn't even fought him.
