Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia: Mares Will Throw Combos, Break Santa Cruz Down

Abner Mares, and trainer Robert Garcia, are hoping that the second time is the charm, when the challenge WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (34-1-1, 19 KOs) on June 9th at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Back in 2015 at the very same venue, Mares (31-2-1, 15 KOs) dropped a close twelve round decision to Santa Cruz.

Completely pointless mismatch. Reminds me of Kovalev vs pascal 2.

I like Leo Santa Cruz in this match up. Mares better days are behind him. He is now past his prime and is no longer at his physical peak. Moreover he has been in a lot of ring wars and I believe that his career is on the decline. I wouldn't be surprised if Leo stops him.

I like both fighters so I hope Mares wins this time. But I don't see how it can play out any different than the first fight. It seems like Mares did everything he could do and it still wasn't enough. He may get stopped. But as a fan of his I HOPE he wins this time.

Garcia is as ****** as he looks... the bout is meaningless... it's been too long for this rematch to happen... Mares has slipped as far as skills and in the back of his mind is always Jhonny Gonzalez... Leo in an overhyped fight will win fairly easy...
