Comments Thread For: Jack Aims To Make a Career Statement With Win Over Stevenson

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Go ahead and accept a round of applause. Because if even as Badou Jack reeled from the onslaught of one Derek Edwards you still viewed him as a potential pound-for-pound elite, you're a soothsayer of the highest magnitude. The unbeaten Swede was headed toward a 168-pound title eliminator four years ago when he collided with Edwards' right hand...

If Badou gets the W on Saturday

You have to include him on the P4P list somewhere between 6-10 just off resume alone.

In 3 years he’d have beat the #1 guy at 175 should have got the decision against Degeale for #1 at 168 and beat the current #1 at 168 ( Groves ) throw in Dirrell & Cleverly who both held straps at the time and Bute I’m hard pressed to think of another fighter who’s has a better resume in that time span and not just the names but when he fought them

Similarly if Stevenson wins the fight, he should also have a very good resume despite fighting so less in recent years. One of the ****tiest reign of champs though. He held that belt hostage.

I agree to some extent but don’t really think he’s holding it hostage

I’ve always said Adonis gets way too much hate on here

Is his resume since he beat Dawson a row of killers , No

but think him getting his strap at 35 ish plays a large part in it . The strap and lineal is the only thing he has to make decent paydays and he isn’t going to ruin his gravy train at such a old age with little to no chance of getting it back if the fight isn’t right financially.

But the guy smashed Dawson who even though got beat by Ward previously was still the man at 175

Beat Cloud who I think was 1 fight removed from his strap

            Bika was a former champion

Fonfara went on to beat Chavez and Cleverly and was regarded as a top 5 guy after Stevenson

And Bellew had a career resurgence since being KTFO by Stevenson

And if he gets by Jack who is top 3-4 at 175 and was the man at 168

It’s not spectacular but it’s a decent run

Look at other long reigning Champs who get praised like Valdez , Zurdo , Russell Jr , Saunders , Selby , Linares none of those guys have had decent reigns but receive 1/10th of the negativity as Adonis

But regardless the winner on Saturday deserves props and shouldn’t get sh.itted on from here on out

Rooting on Jack. Guy just seems like a good dude. Boxing needs more good dudes winning.

But yea a W here would be HUGE for Jack's legacy.

Jacks a good fighter and a good man but it’s hard for those type of fighters to stand up to elite fighters. No matter what you say about Stevenson he is an elite 175 fighter. Inside the ring he is the better fighter and I don’t expect jack who struggled with DeGale for 7 rounds and took over once DeGale started gassing to handle Stevenson. I expect a first half ko of jack.

On the topic of being good, who cares if Jack is a good man? All that matters is his skills inside the ring regardless of how great of a Person you think he is. Being a good guy isn’t gonna stop Adonis from trying to ko him

Hoping Jack Wins. He can then have a big fight with the Kovalev-Alvarez winner down the line too

I just love Jack, the guy will fight anyone. He's an old school fighter, with absolutely no fear of facing the best. Wished there was more guys like him in the sport.
