    Scott Harrison's chances at feather/superfeather?

I've never been a big fan of Scott Harrison, largely because I had £20 on Victor Polo to beat him, but the poor guy's in rehab right now.

Before he went in he was talking of moving up and getting a fight with Barrera.

Now, at the time, I thought this was completely ridiculous, that he's far too one-dimensional and that Barrera would chew him up. But then I've been thinking of the following things lately:

    1. Barrera and Morales have just been reclassified by me as "Amigos with too many miles on the clock". They're both struggling to hold onto anything like elite level, and could lose (or have, in Morales's case) a fight at any time. I had both in my P4P top five only recently, but I can't do that any more. No disrespect to either of these warriors, but they've just got too battle worn.

    2. The weight. As limited as Harrison is, the reason why I dislike him so much is the rumour that he comes in on fight night at anything up to (ISTR) 160lbs. That means that during the actual fight Harrison weighs anything up to 4-6 divisions higher than the one he's supposed to be fighting in. Barrera should still have way too much for Harrison, but has he got enough to compensate for a c.20lb differential?

The bottom line is, if Harrison did get a fight against one of those guys, by the time it comes off he might have got them at exactly the right time.

How do you rate the guy, anyway? I see the Ring gave him their nod as "most exciting" fighter in his division, but I'm not so keen.

Harrison honestly has skills, he just doesn't use them. He has some nice counter skills, which we've seen flashes of here and there (especially in early career), but he always reverts back to just marauding forward and giving it rough and tumble (square-on and with no lateral movement) and the reason is probably because he he simply couldn't be bothered to box.. or because his head was so screwed up that he couldn't be bothered to think.

He's a natural street brawler, Scott, but he does have pedigree - he did win the Junior European featherweight final in 1995 and get to the Senior European featherweight semi's in 1996. I would love him to leave the marauding stuff behind and just concentrate on his boxing, because he genuinely has some nice counter skills in there.

Scott is good, remember he went to MSG at 22 years old and beat the far more experienced Tracy Patterson. Against Thornhill, Scott threw a perfect body shot to finish the job - he looked like the business!

Hey, I bet you didn't know that he was a member of Eubank's entourage when Eubank fought Tony Thornton, did you?

          I didn't.

I know it's wrong to like/dislike fighters based on their personality, but would you say that Harrison comes over - frankly - as a bit of a ****?

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. I don't wish his current problems on any man, but whenever I've seen him interviewed he always struck me as the sort of guy that would be in fight Saturday night whether he had a sanctioned bout or not. Lately that's proved to be the case...

PS. Juice, what was your score for Harrison-Polo?

He got lucky, I didn't keep a scorecard. But he got lucky, Scott

I do think he can live with Barerra if he sorts himself out, stops getting pissed out of his head and sharpens up his boxing to what it used to be. Barerra is definately slowing, and not half the fighter he was five or 11 years ago.

I rate Scott, at his Boxing best, maybe a class above Alex Arthur.

Like you, I didn't actually keep a scorecard for that fight, but my impression was he got lucky that night. (Though I initially thought Hatton was lucky vs. Collazo, so maybe it was "end of the fight" impressions...)

I'd pick Harrison to beat Arthur simply on the weight issue alone. I don't agree with it, but it's going to make him a formidable opponent to any man...
