To be honest, I completely forgot this fight was taking place. I'm gonna put down what I've seen from both fighters, and you guys can tell me what you think.
Mikey Garcia isn't flashy, but he's effective and packs a fuckton of power below 140. From what I've seen, he has a good jab, decent sense of distance, and accuracy. Also, his hands are NyQuil, and his chin is solid.
Robert Easter Jr looks like a starving middleweight. Can somebody please give this man a meal? All jokes aside, he has tremendous height and reach advantages over pretty much everyone in his division. Besides that, he has okay power, a solid chin, and knows how to use his range.
Breakdown
Robert Easter Jr is 5in taller, and has arms 8in longer than Mikey Garcia. On paper, this is pretty horrific for Garcia, but for whatever reason, Easter never uses his physical advantages as much as he should. He's like the Paul Williams of the lightweight division. When he does use them, he can be effective, but he tends to abandon them and fight on the inside. In 3 of his last 4 fights, he took a load of shots, by allowing smaller fighters to close the distance on him. Hell, his last opponent [Javier Fortuna] nearly dropped him, multiple times, because of this. That's exactly what you don't wanna do, against a fighter with 1 punch KO power, like Mikey Garcia.
Mikey Garcia is definitely the more technically sound fighter, but he's not without his faults. Garcia's defense is good, but I don't like what he was doing in his last fight. Against Lipinets, he was shelling up, backing up into the ropes, and trading punches. This shouldn't be too much of an issue against Easter, since he isn't a massive puncher, but it is worth noting.
He also doesn't have much, in terms of footwork. It's good enough for him to cut off the ring, but he's not gonna be boxing circles around anybody. He's most likely gonna be standing in front of Easter.
If Easter doesn't give up his height/reach, I see Garcia shooting his jab to close the distance. Once there, Easter will tie him up, if he's smart. If he fights like he usually does, he'll try to fight Garcia on the inside. If Garcia's allowed to fight in the pocket, Easter's going to sleep. If Easter fights with the right style, he could buy himself more time, or even go the distance. I think Easter's out of his depth, against Garcia.
70/30 Garcia
