Comments Thread For: BWAA to Honor Lomachenko as 'Fighter of the Year' Friday Night

NEW YORK After Vasiliy Lomachenko weighs in late Friday afternoon for his 135-pound debut, he'll take a short trip to a nearby venue to accept recognition for his three previous performances. Ukraine's Lomachenko will pick up his "Sugar" Ray Robinson Award for "Fighter of the Year" at the Boxing Writers Association of America's 93rd annual awards dinner at The Copacabana in Manhattan.

Is doing this the night before a big fight really a good idea? Especially at a set dinner? Now all they have to do is spike the food at that dinner to take down Loma like how the boxing establishment constantly seems to be trying to tear down foreign boxers or set them up to lose either directly to the American or Mexican boxers, or to make room for the American or Mexican boxers to pass them on the P4P list and become bigger stars so that they can make the boxing establishment more money.

Rumour has it that Loma is also playing a pro basketball match in the morning of the fight.

This award is as if it's cursed. I wish Loma ignored it until after the fight.

Sosa, Marriaga (a super featherweight), Rigondeaux (a super bantamweight). Is deserving of fighter of the year lol?

I think he deserves it for Rigondeaux alone. I didn't expect him to make that fight look so simple.
