How are these bad numbers? Golden Boy on ESPN2 avg about 200K viewers last year. This year their ratings are up but probably avg about 250K viewers. It did less then Francisco Vargas which might be the highest ratings this year but how is that a bad thing Vargas is a established former world champ 2X in Fight of the year. It also went head to head with the NBA playoffs on ESPN. It's one thing to go head to head with a another sporting event it's another going head to head with with another sporting event on your own network.

Golden Boy on ESPN2 been doing about 250K he did better then their avg and his last fight on the main ESPN channel drew 400K viewers. I think only 1 or 2 cards in the last 2 years from Golden Boy on the main ESPN channel have drawn higher then that. So Ryan Garcia has one of the highest ratings on ESPN2 and one of the highest ratings on ESPN in the golden boy series.

Here are the ratings since Golden Boy debuted the 2018 series

3/9/2018 Azat Hovhannisyan vs Ronny Rios ESPN2 244K
3/22/2018 Ryan Garcia vs Fernando Vargas ESPN 398K
3/31/2018 Jason Quigley vs Daniel Cruz ESPN2 259K
4/12/2018 Francisco Vargas vs Rod Salka ESPN2 296K
4/19/2018 Lamont Roach vs Orlando Cruz ESPN2 201K
5/4/2018 Ryan Garcia vs Jayson Velez ESPN2 281K

      Highest ratings for the Series
08/04/2017 Maurico Herrera vs Jesus Sota Karass ESPN 415K

They air most of their cards on ESPN2 and a handful on ESPN. Ryan has the second highest rating for 2018 on ESPN2 and the second highest ratings period for golden boy on ESPN. When you look at their ratings as a whole these are actually great ratings.

Good numbers for a 19 year old! When ggg, Mayweather and Ward were 19 they weren’t even on tv! Ryan the future ppv king

Goes to show that social media "followers" dont mean anything as far as being a real supporter. And if the best thing you can say about a fighter is that a handful of little girls like him then that is probably a sign of hype, not necessarily hope for a bright future as a prize fighter

All three were competing in the amateurs at that age, and all three ended up with Olympic medals... Floyd at 21 beat genero Hernandez who was the wbc and lineal super featherweight champion. I’m not even sure Garcia could trouble tank in 2 years time especially after that outing with a journeyman like Velez. Why anyone would compare Garcia to the likes of greatness I just can’t fathom

I don't see what the issue is with these numbers. Garcia is 19. His promotion company has had terrible press in the months leading up to the fight-the #1 guy failed a PED test and the head of the company got blowback from a coke filled dalliance with hookers where he placed all kinds of kitchen utensils up his anus.

The only downside was Garcia didn't look as good as he had previously.
