Comments Thread For: Bellew: You May Laugh, But I'd Beat Ward - Never Faced My Skills

Former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (30-2-1, 20 KOs) is not bothered by any of the critics who are ridiculing his statements with respect to a potential fight with former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KOs), who retired last year.

I somewhat don't think that this is quite the fight that Bellew needs, Bellew said he wants a big name that will be a draw pull for a big PPV event, but seriously Ward really isn't that big of a name!

Then we have to hope that Ward grows a pair and accepts the fight on Bellews terms which is another HUGE ask because Ward already ducked Froch offer of that and Matchroom were willing to pay Ward handsomely for that.

Then the other big problem is how long did it take for Ward to actually fight a live body when he finally returned?
Does Bellew have 1-2 years to wait for Ward to be ready, I don't think so.

This quote here interests me though:
"I have all the respect in the world for him but he has never faced a fighter who can match him up close, fighting on the inside. He is Bernard Hopkins, just 20 years younger, but there are ways to beat him. I'll beat him but he'd go down as a far greater fight than me."
Now If we're lead to believe this then what would likely be installed for this fight would be a good referee who enforces the rules, this alone would give a big underdog like Bellew a somewhat realistic chance to beat a very dirty fighter like Ward.

I still think Ward will duck this he has ducked plenty more in his career and he seems content with the very little that he has achieved in the sport, the Tyson Fury Vs. Bellew fight will likely be the fight to be made.

Ward is retired. He's not coming back. He has nothing more to prove. Bellew needs to go back to cruiserweight and try to secure the fights that would be meaningful.

Get in reality. I'm not a huge Ward fan, but your comments are absurd. Talking about Ward being a ducker? This man cleaned out super middleweight, then moved up and beat Barrera and Kovalev twice. Whether you want to whine about dirty tactics or not, he still faced Kovalev twice when Kovalev was feared by most. So love him or hate him, calling him a ducker is biased idiocy.

Could not have said it any better.

You do not even have to like Ward to see through that diatribe.
