CARSON, CALIF - Ryan "The Flash" Garcia (15-0, 13 KOs), the 2017 consensus prospect of the year and pride of Victorville, Calif., scored a unanimous decision victory against seasoned Puerto Rican contender Jayson "La Maravilla" Velez (26-5-1, 18 KOs) to win the NABF and NABO Super Featherweight Titles on a very special May 4 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN in front of a crowd of 6,625 boxing fans at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. After a hard-fought ten rounds of action, Garcia won with three scores of 99-91.

He's got some real slow hand speed for his weight class.

Garcia has quite a ways to go and with his exposure he may not learn fast enough to keep up with the levels in competition he wants to face.

Who would be a good fight for him next? I heard Carlos Morales is in the running and that would be a good fight

"I didn't think he [Garcia] would last with me, but I was proven wrong," said Jayson Velez. "He needs a little more experience, but he's going to be big. He moves well, and was able to keep up with me. He's a great opponent, and we put on a great show. I'm proud of what we did here."

Classy comments by Velez especially after a lot trash talk back and forth heading into the fight. Velez was very durable and game. Took a massive beating was wobble multiple times but kept coming and trying to win. And damn does he have a chin he's never been knocked out and it showed why. But Ryan too fast and too skilled. Still young needs more experience but he's going to be a star.

agree its too much hype too fast get this kid some fights under his belt first we don't want to hear about his "big following" he's only got 14 15 fights and is still pretty green.

When I saw that Del La Hoya comparison the fact that DLH at 19 threw twice as many punches each rd and was still more accurate and more powerful imo pretty much tells u this kid got a long ways to go because they are basically the same body type similar height/frame..

So basically the same type of fighters DLH struggled with this kid def gonna have a hard time with..Tank would be his Pernell Whitaker rn

When you compare him to DLH its odvious that hes not in the same league as he was.
Maybe because guys were just more hungry in that age compared to this age were guys just expect things to happen make them great.
Once he gets into a few wars he will know it takes more than just natural ability and he will have to dig hard in preparation.
Then and only then will we know if he has got what it takes
His fight tonight was a very good learning fight for him to go forward.
Im glad it wasnt over in 4.
                WAR GARCIA.

He is on the fast track to getting knocked out.

no jab, no head movement. it's gonna end bad for Ryan garcia

What an embarrassing performance by Queen Ryan. Slow hands, no lateral movement, can’t throw combinations, all talk, all hype.
