At that point in time he was the proper fighter to have #1.

Like always ppl trying to spin it. He got robbed in his first lost and got trashed in the second one. At least he took on the competition and lost when he went up in weight.

So one day he decided to hold in his poop for an extra day to make the new weight division of SuperFly weight, a whooping 2lbs heavier than what he originally was.
During the first fight he got throughly outclassed then in the rematch against the 'bigger man' got KTFO.

Roman Gonzales should be synonymous for 'Overrated' in boxing.
No. His mistake was going for greatness. He rose up too many weight classes.

i don't think you watched a lick of his career before he made it to american TV. the guy started his world title run at 105 lbs and only a few years into his pro career. form there he was a championship level fighter for almost a decade.

like a lot of little guys, he peaked early and was moved as such. this isn't a HW who takes until his 25th or even 30th birthday to develop his man strength and fill out. what you saw was the end of his career and his third weight class, when he'd started to slow down, get hit more, and show the damage.

people never understand this. ward was inactive / arguably lost to kovalev. floyd was retired. there's a list that exists, people exit, and next thing you know there's a new pound for pounder. and that was gonzalez.

P4P is not determined by resume alone. You have to factor in how a given fighter would perform with his skillset against other fighters in mythical match ups across all weight classes. Given Roman's style, skills, and overall performance I don't have a problem calling him P4P #1 during his tenure. Imagine a 6' tall Chocolatito at 154 with his skills...the Charlo's would have crawled under a rock as would Lara, Canelo and Andrade. What he were 6'6" 240 lbs. with those skills, you think any HW could touch him? I think he's a better P4P fighter than GGG when you consider the whole fighter concept. Don't forget he was robbed in his first loss.

                  I don’t consider Crawford p4p #1.

My p4p #1 is actually Lomachenko.

It was Andre Ward before he retired.

His defense is **** though. He has always used his face to block punches. I don’t think any of those fighters would’ve crawled under a rock if there was a giant Roman Gonzalez up there. He would actually been easy work with his atrocious defense that those little Asians couldn’t do anything to down there, except when he met the Rungvisai dude.

We will forget he was robbed in the first loss, because he wasn’t. What was the point in robbing him in NYC? Oh NYC loves Rungvisai, we want promote that guy as the next Pacquiao. Man those judges don’t give a ****, they scored what they saw.
