Velez was once promising and seems like a nice guy but he fell into stepping stone status a while back. The fact Garcia's people signed up for him this early clearly illustrates that.
Even if he is shot which I flat out disagree with it but let's say he was a "shot" Velez is better then the guys prospects who are much older then Garcia are facing. You rather he face a guy with a losing record, a no named club fighter? That's the competition guys like Shakur Stevenson a older olympic blue chip fighter has faced. The worst version of Velez who only has a few losses NONE by knockout all to good fighters and is still in his physical prime is still a huge step up. Guys at Ryan Garcia's stage simply don't fight guys like Velez no matter how you try and spin it. He's 19 years old for phuk sake. I can find prime fighters and world champs facing worse competition then Velez lol

I don't understand what people want,do they want this guy with 14 fights to fight a top pound for pound fighter? ...the guy needs to be brought slowly,,he has 14 fights, not 20-25 fights,,always going to be excuses when people hate,,,"he's a bum"..."too big"..."he needs to fight better guys"...if I were his promoter I would start putting him in with top 15 fighters when he has 20 fights, then at 25 fights top ten, guys who have challenged champion, guys who are ex champs, those type of fighters give you good experience, not rush him,..there will always be excuses,if he were to ko lets say gervonta davis, people would say davis was a bum to begin with, thats just the way it is,and no I wouldn't puthim in with davis now, just like mayweather doesn't seem to be in a rush to match davis with lomachenko I don't see why Oscar whould rush this kid either

They get mad when Tank is mentioned and say Tank would flatten him. But they stay mad if he fights no hopers. I think they want to be mad.

If hes ever successful its only because hes a weightbully and is clearly too big for the division, guys his height are usually LMWs or MWs. Clearly hes scared to fight guys his actual size.
He’s 130, wrong info. Adrien Broner, Floyd and Oscar all looked way too big but started at that division

means nothing. It's not a title fight and both guys are in the same weight class so neither guy is at a disadvantage. If a title was on the line both guys would drain the last bit.
