    I grew up in Chicago and we were taught to say yes sir and yes mame/mrs/miss... And to use terms like Mr and Mrs/Miss...it's not a southern thing it's a respect thing

        No doubt. You had good folks. I was merely implying that I have run across many more "outwardly rude" Northerners than Southerners.
