    Nigel Benn came to mind.

Benn beat Roy Andre, Rod Douglas, Fidel Castro Smith (Herol Graham's cousin, otherwise known as Slugger O'Toole), Denys Cronin and Johnny Melfah to win the 1986 ABA title.

In the pro's Barkley, Lenzie Morgan (robbed against former world champ Tiozzo in previous fight), McClellan, then you have DeWitt and Sims who were sparring partners of Hagler when teenagers and neither had ever been down in their lives - Benn knocked them over and anihilated them, you also have Galvano in his backyard ala DeWitt and Barkley, you have Eubank who Benn was robbed against in their rematch.

Reggie Miller, Tim Williams and Anthony Logan were still prospects when Benn blasted them out, Jose Quinones was a former WBC #1 contender who Benn wiped out in one round, Nicky Piper and Henry Wharton had punched guys out of the ring in under 30 seconds but Benn stayed out of harms way and out-boxed them.

Roy Andre and Rod Douglas were internationals. Infact Douglas was robbed against Shawn O'Sullivan (at 156) at the 1984 Olympics, and O'Sullivan was robbed against Frank Tate in the final. Douglas beat Benn in 1985 (Benn's only amateur loss), but Benn won the return match the following year (before being screwed out of the 1986 Commonwealth Games due to allegedly missing the first training session, they sent Douglas instead because he was more experienced and Douglas dominated Jeff Harding in the final at 165). Both Benn/Douglas fights were barn-burners. Against club predictions, Benn beat his sparring partner Roy Andre in 1985 (they both fought out of West Ham), but in 1986 Benn was favourite against him. Andre knocked Benn down in their 1985 fight, and also knocked Benn down in sparring just before their 1986 fight which made some switch their predictions and go for Andre again instead.

lol yeh man, steve bunce said nige was crowned 'king of the tough guys' as the french ref waved off mcclennan & the moment benn had won, the moment he dipped with his arms he was king. buncey said how nige had always come out on top- lost 2 rod douglas but won the rematch, almost stopped against logan but knocks him out, douglas, logan, barkley, dewitt, sims, watson, eubank- all the tough guys, came out on top becos eubank beat watson twice & benn beat eubank second time, & then mclennan who had wiped out the remainin tough guys (mugabi, jackson) in one round each was the last guy benn had 2 get by 2 be crowned 'king of the tough guys', benn had all those wars & was still standin, but mclennan fight finished him although it was the crownin moment

roberto duran leaves benn in the dust, forget about amateur, duran's pro resume is enough.
