The vast majority of boxers don't work in sparring sessions, they treat it like a real fight.
If you're sparring cats in your gym or working with a lower level cat and I mean like a 13 year-old JO amateur vs a grown man amateur, nobody is taking it easy on anybody.
Hell, when I was an amateur I wanted to get some rounds with a pro there and he warned me he's a punching bag for nobody and there would be no work, meaning if I wanted to get it I would be going 100% (we did 2 rounds). We're RL friends too.
I can't wait til Lomo comments on this. At best I suspect Loma was working on purely defense that day.
Dig Garcia as a prospect & person trying to get his, but I just can't see a universe where Ryan Garcia, 0-0 vs live opponents, can outbox Loma, P4P discussed cat if both guys are there for real for real sparring & not no handicapped situation where Loma is just throwing uppercuts or working D or some such sh^t like that.
Usually, you get kicked out of sparing for going too hard and being an azzhole who refuses to control himself. Sparring is not about how good you are, it's about training and requires restraint. Most of of these stories of, "I outboxed him in sparring" can be read as, "I have a chip on my shoulder and was trying to prove a point".
