How could Lance Armstrong, the most famous and most highly-scrutinized cyclist in the world repeatedly pass drug tests while actively doping over the course of a decade?
""Does it work? Yes, it does," says Amitava Dasgupta, PhD, a professor of pathology and drug testing expert from the University of Texas-Houston Medical Center. "It's a cat and mouse game.""

how so?
There are differences in the methods of analysis used for urine & hair. If Canelo were dosing daily (30-100 mcgs) w/ clenbuterol in 2 week cycles then hair testing would detect this activity. Eating a meat meal w/ trace amounts of clenbuterol may not be detected in a hair.

CANELO: I predict hair testing for clenbuterol will be implemented by WADA in the not too distant future. Uninformed scribes that are attacking hair testing do not seem to understand that many WADA tests have limitations & variations w/ allowable limits arbitrarily established. https://t.co/pp5W5EFE0p

CANELO: I've personally talked w/ the director of the Salt Lake City lab that did the Canelo hair test for clenbuterol. He is well informed in regards 2 the proper sample collection & testing procedures. Even CIR/IRMS test for testosterone has limitations & variations. https://t.co/pp5W5EFE0p

CANELO: Hair & Urine testing 4 clenbuterol provide different types of info. Urine is recent two weeks exposure. Hair can be from a month up to six months or longer back. If you are trying to determine "intent to cheat" or abuse then hair is a better sample than urine.@edgraney https://t.co/pp5W5EFE0p

He had 2 urine tests that DID show trace Clenbuterol. Urine tests measure ~2-3 weeks in the past
Hair follicle test - gives ~6-8 months of data regarding drug use.
Dont listen to me...Victor Conte is saying this is huge and basically frees BO$$ from all guilt.
Hell Victor even suggested the hair follicle test will be the new standard
Conte is waaaay overselling this to the extent one has to wonder why. WADA themselves say that it can't provide conclusive proof of anything with hair samples.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) concede that they currently have no scientific means to distinguish whether failed drug tests for clenbuterol have resulted from contaminated meat or genuine doping."We are running some studies to try to distinguish but we don't have a magic solution today," Rabin told insidethegames here at the WADA Symposium.
We initiated the test to be as comprehensive as possible but knowing it’s very difficult, according to the experts,” Bennett said. “It’s a difficult process to be able to confirm whether there is clenbuterol in the hair follicles, but I talked to (SMRTL president and laboratory director) Dr. (Michael) Eichner and he said they’d run the test even though it is even more difficult to run on light-colored hair. But we sent them the samples and the tests came back negative.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 04-30-2018, 08:28 AM.Comment

Yes. There's a very good reason it isn't the standard now though, and that's because insufficient research has been done to ensure the reliability and consistency of the results.

From what it looks like NSAC / GBP basically asked for hair sampling because people were saying they should, even though the experts told them it was entirely likely that they wouldn't be able to get a useful result.
Link to WADA themselves stating they recommend hair testing "to provide additional evidence in doping cases
of potential (clenbuterol) contaminations" for low urinary trace examples (EXACTLY what Canelo had)
WADA Report: "A proposed threshold of 1…5 pg/mg clenbuterol in hair could contribute

to discriminate most of the pending clenbuterol cases" https://t.co/perPNdOpMR@edgraney
WADA REPORT CONCLUSION: Clenbuterol testing in HAIR samples. "Hair Testing potentially suitable to confirm Clenbuterol Doping at low urinary concentrations!"@edgraney Hair samples should be used as an adjunctive test to urine for clenbuterol https://t.co/LgrqB0VINt

Yes Ed I do see a time in the near future when WADA will establish a threshold of between 2-5 pg/mg for clenbuterol in hair as an allowable limit. Above this threshold will be considered a positive doping result. Regardless of limitations. Hair is a scientifically valid sample. https://t.co/pp5W5EFE0p

Victor Conte also shoots holes in the latest conspiracy theory that the hair that tested negative wasn't even Canelo's. lol They have strict procedures in how they collect the hair. So idiots no you can't just hand over a red hair you get from the zoo from an orangutan to fool WADA. Hair also contains a person's specific DNA. And states folks saying well hair test have variations to discredit it are ignorant to drug testing even urine and other drug tests have variations. Finally states that WADA almost certainly will change standards to include hair testing AND allowing for specific low levels of Clenbuerol in your body for cases such like Canelo's with meat contamination.Last edited by bigdunny1; 04-30-2018, 08:42 AM.Comment

The fight was canceled because he had clenbuerol in his system. But the question is how did it get there. He was being accused by fans of being a cheater on PEDs. He said he is Clean Fighter And Ate Contaminated meat. Hair test goes back 6 months and negative for PEDS. Consistent with meat contamination.Comment
