what was Emmanuel Steward's strategy for Taylor, "Stay in the corner!"?

I gave Taylor 3-4 rounds at most... it was obvious (being present) that the crowd was one of the deciding factors in the decision. Seriously, Wink had Taylor in all four corners virtually the entire fight. Hats off to both fighters, though, for putting up a great fight (can't wait to watch in on TV now), but a poor decision.

Remind me to head to Vegas next time for a fight, not Memphis. At one point, they showed Thomas Hearns up on the screen, and no one, i mean NO ONE cheered!! It was only after Buffer was making celebrity announcements and said Hearns that people finally cheered....

Thats some pretty awful scoring, but you love Winky, so your clearly biased.
Actully, if u watched the post fight interview, Steward basiclly said Jermian was foolishly backing up into corners for no reason and allowing Winky to land shots.
Taylor said he wanted Winky to engage to give him countering oppourtounities.
Steward said he was impressed by Taylor because he did so many things wrong and still kept his championship.

What the hell is up with Winky refusing a rematch???

Well, and this was from basically the no-bleeds at FedEx..

I don't know.. i can't wait to watch the fight again... i will agree that i think it was close.. but i don't think ANYONE can say Jermaine won the fight.. thinking more about it, the draw seems closer to decent.

It's a natural "upset" reaction for Winky immediately after the fight and i don't blame him a bit for it. I think he might consider later on, but i wouldn't blame him a bit for not wanting to work so hard for a draw.

In other words from Steward, "I can't believe one of my fighters could fight like that and keep the belts."

It's all relative, most Winky fans are biased, and just as so are most Jermaine fans..

Steward provided the right gameplan, flurry after Winky jabs. It worked almost everytime too, untill Winky figured it out. Taylor backing into the ropes was all his fault, not Stewards.

you're right.. and my first post was right when i got home.. i've since seen the fight again and i think it was closer obviously than where i was in the arena last night.. i'd still give Wright the close decision, but you're right in that the idea to flurry after Wright not only looked good, it sounded good because the crowd would absolutely ERUPT everytime.

Do you guys think Taylor wanted to stay on the ropes? He was on the ropes because Winky put constant pressure on him the whole fight. He had no where else to go because Winky always came forward.

Theres nothing wrong at all with going to the ropes and if you face a guy who comes forward the whole time, you will end up on the ropes alot.

The problem was that Taylor just sucks on the rope. You guys act like Floyd and other fighters dont end up on the ropes. They do but they just know how to fight off them. Alot of fighters even love to be on the ropes.

Taylor just sucks at it because he has no clue what defense is. His hands are always low and he's uncoordinated

exactly, and it was effective becasue a good amount of shots were getting through, but not nearly as much as the crowd, or Lampley would lead you to believe. Like I said, a good strategy, untill Winky figured it out. Watch the last 4 rounds and you will see Winky thinking twice when he jabs, and when he does he tries to follow with a lunging left. Thats why when Talor started going in the corner towards the end Winky didnt jus go and attack as much.
