Comments Thread For: WBC Prez: We Won't Be Splitting Heavyweights - It's Untouchable

A few months ago, fans and historians were up in arms after World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman had mentioned that his organization would explore the idea of splitting the heavyweight division. Sulaiman was looking a the idea of making a super heavyweight division - for boxers who were 240-pounds and beyond.

      somewhat understandable

      also, Ortiz did not win

Haye vs Valuev was essentially a 6-foot 200lb guy vs a 7-foot 300lb guy..... not exactly, but there was a 12 inch height and 100lb weight difference between those two fighters..... and yet, Valuev did not win

also, they are in danger of creating a freak-show division..... rather than a division with some exceptions..... like Fury, etc

      I dunno, interesting

      and fair point about cruiser

not sure, this could be a really good debate

        really looking forward to Usyk/Gassiev

I like Gassiev, but have been riding with Usyk a little longer

Usyk is a great guy, hard not to wish good things for him, but whoever wins that fight is the fkn man

It's true that in some fights the difference of weight is great.. for example Luis Ortiz had 30 pounds over Wilder in his last bout, but it did not worry us.
          - World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman

History will remember this great win by the 'Bronze-Bomber' and ALSO as the fight that saved the HW division from being split, indeed Deontay is doing great things for the sport -- first HW champion to do 365 VADA testing, current longest reigning champion at HW, ESPN P4P entrant ; most powerful puncher not only in the modern era but arguably ALL TIME, I can keep going.

I am surprised by this considering how much the WBC loves getting those sanctioning fees.

Way to expose yourself as totally out of touch with the sport. The CW tournament that has been happening lately has been great. Usyk/Gassiev coming up is an excellent fight as well.
