The featherweight title fight between Gary Russell Jr. and Joseph Diaz Jr. is still on for May 19. It is not, however, headed to Montreal, as previously reported. According to an ESPN.com story Friday, Russell will make a mandatory defense of his WBC 126-pound championship against Diaz at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.

looks like the talk that Stevenson/Jack is in jeopardy are real. Otherwise they would of just announced this as it's own main event from the beginning. This is a good fight so either way move it so if Stevenson/Jack falls apart you don't have to scramble and find another date for Russell/Diaz last minute. Only thing that sucks for JoJo is he's not a big puncher if he wins it will be because he schooled Russell but harder to get a decision in Russell backyard then in neutral Montreal.

Yeah, I think that fight is done unfortunately. I had my doubts when it was signed. It is Stevenson after all.

Naw, they were going to fight in Montreal on the Stevenson vs Jack undercard. But that might not come off so they just gave them their own separate event.
