That could very well be the strategy. For me, piecing together statements from both sides, trying to read between the lines, I see this fight "marinating". Not that either is ducking, just that the "goals" of both sides aren't aligning fully. Wilder desparately wants to be considered the next Mike Tyson. Joshua wants to become the next Mayweather. That can't happen without the whole world watching and right now, they wouldn't be. I expect there to be one more fight in between.

I was even saying if the fight is about the 40-50 mil range than 12.5 is not bad....

Come on now let's be real here.

Standard negotiating whilst negotiating a deal is to put a different deal in place with the competition to drive up or down the price. This is nothing more than a reminder/threat that Joshua doesn't need the fight and that he has got other options if Wilder will not bend to his will.
