Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin: I Want The Joshua Fight Immediately

Alexander Povetkin (34-1, 24 KOs), a mandatory contender to WBA and WBO world titles in the heavyweight division, said that the next time he enters the ring he wants that return to be against Anthony Joshua, who holds WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world titles. The incoming offers from other boxers before the bout with Joshua do not interest him.

Doesn't really matter what Povetkin wants. Sanctioning body orders a fight, and he has to take it, if not he loses his positioning. Just like the champion, contenders have to fulfill sanctioning orders. Same thing with Porter, if he gets ordered to fight Garcia, he'll be stripped of his #1 contender rank if he were to refuse the fight. Anyway Povetkin, like Porter, is listed as the #1 contender not as the mando, so as of right now AJ is not obligated to fight him.

Promoter Andrei Ryabinsky of World of Boxing, who handle Russian heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin, will do everything possible to force a mandatory figh

Joshua, who won the belt against Wladimir Klitschko, now looks set to defend both that belt as well as his IBF and WBO title against Povetkin.
