The entire reasoning for keeping the date and fighting a nobody last minute was so that fans wouldn't have to cancel plans. Remember Loeffler telling folks don't cancel your flights and hotels we still fighting on May 5. The short turn around was why they were going to fight a weak opponent because they didn't have time to prepare for a southpaw like Andrade. And Saunders is not ready until June. Well if you moving to another state anyway (lets be real they moving it because GGG can't sell shyt by himself in Vegas and they know it) then just move to another date as well and get a better opponent and more time to properly promote it.

Why Loeffler acting like GGG is married to the Cinco De Mayo date when GGG has never fought on this date and isn't even Mexican makes no sense. You just going to embarrass GGG when this PPV flops. It's going to stubhub so they can give away cheap tickets and freebies to avoid a half empty MGM building on TV in addition to a PPV that will do terrible numbers.

Anybody but Munguia or Falcao please, even Spike would be better. An untested, 21 year old 154lber would be a joke.

I'd rather see the mando against Derevyanchenko. It makes more sense, if the IBF demands it. If he fights O' Sullivan, it puts money in ODLH's pocket for a 2018 Cinco De Mayo fight, which I don't think he deserves. Mungia is definitely too small. The bigger names would be too difficult to negotiate on such short notice. It sucks for the fans who bought airline tickets to Vegas if the fight is moved to California.

I can't imagine that this fight will still be PPV, no matter whom Golovkin settles on.

The money is likely part of it, Derevyenchenko or whoever won't fight for free. And for sure, sticking with May 5 no longer really works, all a bit of a train wreck.

Couldn't Canelo have fought in California if his problem is with the Nevada SAC ? I guess California might have their own issues with the positive tests, so probably not.

Loeffler and every media outlet has been reporting that regardless who the opponent is it will remain a PPV. HBO is not paying for this or moving it to a HBO regular telecast. If you move the date and get a better opponent probably could be a regular HBO broadcast. But adding another PPV flop on GGG ledger just to keep a date that has no significance to a Kazakastan fighter shows once again how out of his league Loeffler is.

I went to that one too. The Donaire-Walters fight was fun at least.
