I don't really have a problem with the decision, but I had it 7-5 Lara and even gave Hurd a couple of the close rounds. How did that one judge have it 4-1 for Hurd after 5 rounds? That's crazy. Anyway it was a good fight. I do feel like Showtime's team was trying to hype Hurd up though.
Listening to the commentary I actually thought they were biased against Hurd. Especially Paulie. Farhood had Lara up for much of the fight. I remember one round where Hurd did all the work the entire round then Lara came on for like 15 seconds. They all said Lara stole the round. Farhood gave that round to Lara. The round wasn't stolen in my opinion because of all the good work Hurd did prior to the Lara flurry. The only way I consider a round stolen is if there was a significantly lull in the round where neither fighter took control until someone land significant punches in the end. You can't consider it stolen if it was one sided and then the person losing the round does something for 10 seconds. Unfortunately, a lot of people have that mentality and the commentators influence that kind of thinking by saying things like rounds are getting stolen. That's not a judging criteria.

I had Lara taking 1,6,7,10,11 I was surprised he went strong on 10 and 11, after the 9 I thought Hurd would ko'd him any moment.
2nd round could have gone either way in my opinion, the others Hurd won clearly, my opinion too.

I hear ya man, it was a tough fight, especially to score in a way. I personally don't place any added significance on what a boxer does at the end of the round. If it's a close round and one guy closes it better then of course I will give it to that guy. Personally I saw Hurd doing what the big man should do, which is stalking Lara and using his weight on him at times. He did some good work at times and did a lot of volume work. But I felt Lara was consistently getting clean shots off on Hurd, more so than vice-versa. But it was a good fight. It's not like Hurd was some nobody, he was a champion and is a tough dude. No clue how he makes 154.

That's one of the best thing about this sport. You and I can see the same fight and see totally different things. That's one of the reasons I don't get too harsh with judges. I saw Hurd do a lot of things to dictate the pace and the way the fight went. I give Lara plenty of props for not giving up because Hurd's been forcing fighters to reevaluate whether they want to continue taking this punishment. That's a heck of a thing to do to a man, especially one that's already excepted the fact they're about to get punched in the face repeatedly. At the end of the fight I would much rather be Hurd than Lara because only one of them looked like a beaten fighter.

I don't necessarily agree with those saying it was a razor close fight. You know how certain fights have a feel to them? It felt like Lara was losing. But that's judging the fight as a whole. Even scoring round by round, I had it 116 - 111 for Hurd.

Lara did well, but only in spots and whenever he did work on the inside, Hurd almost always got the better of it. Whenever the fight was at mid range, Lara got the better of it. I think quality, sharp punching outweighs workload, but there's a limit to it. Hurd was much more active, kept Lara on the back foot most of the fight, and his punches looked much more powerful. It's also hard to look good going backwards.

I do think that if Lara was more active, he would've won more rounds because he was hitting Hurd clean. It's just that Hurds punches effected Lara more, so I put more weight on his punches.

I think it was pretty clear that Hurd won. Competitive for sure, but still a clear decision for Hurd.
