Every Cuban boxer is old and past their prime.

My thought precisely. Pretty much all the top Cuban ams who defected and turned Pro did so around 2008-9, and none of them were kids then (Rances was probably the youngest at 21) and most were well into their 20s. That's 10 years ago, man. Most of these guys are in their late 30s now.

Urgas ain't bad, but I doubt he can protect his compatriots from father time.

Although I’m not a fan of Lara, I was hoping he’d stop the Cuban bleeding. We’re at a low now, and I don’t see a savior on the horizon. Ugas isn’t it. There are a couple of very young guys in the pros right now who really aren’t worth mentioning yet. The guys we’ve got that have championship potential are stuck on the island. It’s probably gonna be a couple of years before another Cuban makes some noise.

You’re a real fan the Cubans in the 70s-90s were elite as hell but they could never defect just like the Soviet’s.. would of loved to see both kill everyone in the game.

I think Joahnys Argilagos defected recently, so he should be a force to reckon with when he turns up in the pros. Maybe too small for most people to care though. Cruiserweight Frank Sanchez defected a while ago too. He was slated to debut last year but I can't find any info on whether it actually happened
