He's had an underwhelming pro career was gifted a gold in Beijing and has the personality of a gmo wheatgrain. I knew he was **** when groves beat him yet he's been overrated since that time by fellow brits

I don't recall his Olympic gold being a gift, though it was an unexpected one if I remember right. It could be that for Beijing he just found a once in a lifetime run of form and then reverted to type afterwards (which is still solid enough). I respect that he went to America and took tough fights

I'll give him credit for fighting at world level for a long sequence, he certainly was up for trying to be a world champion - only froch amongst the SMW brits has a better average class of title opponent - but you cant forgive losing to truax. Once in the ring, he seems to at times to let things go.
bit early to write him off though? This is 2018 not 1918, early 30s is not past it. The outstanding weakness is his decision to coast through rounds, switching off even when hes not hurt. Is he not fully fit? Whats that about?
Hes obviously a world class boxer, with gold at amateur and title opposition at a consistencyl guys like calzaghe would only dream of when he wasnt running away from them.
Maybe its having such a minging mum lol. If that was my mum I woudnt let her on tv.Last edited by DreamFighter; 04-06-2018, 07:45 AM.

I think he's been overrated but still had a decent career with a few decent wins. Still think he arguably lost to Medina and did lose to Jack though.
His gold wasn't a gift though if i remember correctly. He won it fair and square. He was a pretty decent amateur anyway but probably not expected to win an olympic gold. He had already won medals at the Europeans and Commonwealth games, for what it's worth.
His pro career has been far more successful than people that won medals such as Audley, David Price, Anthony Ogogo etc..
I wouldn't even say he's overrated by Brits. Nobody here cares about DeGale, which is why he spent the last few years fighting in USA or Canada.

I think he has too much dog in him at times and gets caught up in a tougher fight than he needs to. Showed plenty of balls and heart in the later part of the fight with Jack.
I think your post is back to front. In my opinion, he's not quite as skilled as he thinks but never shy's away from a tear up.
