I am really sick and tired of people saying Tyson fought no one impressive and keep discrediting him just because they hate him, Tyson went undefeated till he was 37-0 and defended the Unified titles 8 times, he destroyed fighters, the man has been through so much in his life, missed the 4 good years of his career because of prison, if he did'nt go to jail he would have had more fights and would have had the better legacy, i believe tyson was in his prime from 1986-1996, he was the only guy to score a knockout against Larry Holmes, who is a boxing legend, people may still hate on him for how he acted in the ring but it was purely to sell tickets..for the promotion, the man went to jail for **** (i did'nt believe tyson really ****d desiree), he lost to Douglas because he was having a lot of problems in his personal life, his wife and all the media pissing him off, anyone in his place would be mental by now or probably kill themselves, He beat 2 men that beat Muhammad Ali (yes they may be out of their primes and yes Ali was out of his prime when he fought them) but still on the record he destroyed those men, Larry Holmes had a close fight with Holyfield in the later years, while Tyson finished him in 4 rounds, finished Berbick in 2 rounds, His impressive win was against Michael Spinks, who he had finished in just 1 round, people dont give him credit for beating Tyrell Biggs (who had incredible handspeed) because Biggs lost a lot of fights after that but the fact is he was an olympic medalist who was undefeated when he fought tyson, and tyson beat him bad, he beat the Undefeated Tony Tucker (who had a good chin) to capture the IBF version of the title, he faced dangerous opponents like Frank Bruno and Donovon Ruddock and beat them, Tyson was good when Cus d'amato was with him, the guy really loved him, he took care of mike when mike was known as a tough kid from the streets, he got him out of trouble in the streets and started training him as a boxer, Tyson also lived in his house (D'amato had a room in his house for Mike), and when D'amato passed away thins began to change, it was a very sad day for tyson himself.
Why do people Discredit Tyson?

i think pinklon thomas & tony tubbs were talented fighters in the early 80's but washed up when tyson fought them -
He lost to williams because he had twisted his knee, and was whooping his ass before, all of his losses came in the later years when he was CLEARLY out of his prime, people may hate him for the later losses, but then again Ali lost the last fights of his career, Foreman lost the last fights of his career, and some other fighters did too, the same way Tyson also lost some fights in his career, remember he is a human, and humans are not perfect, every fighter, no matter how good he is loses, real champions lose, losing is part of the game, I think the prison and personal problems ****ed Tysons career up and his legacy tooComment

tony tucker was average, holmes was old, spinks froze, bruno froze, tyson really did'nt do much ! most impressive is that he beat good contenders marvin frazier, ribalta & radcliff havin just turned 20 yrs old, & the berbick ko shot was a beauty- knocked berbick over twice with one shot, but then he did'nt have the comp 2 be great. there was no holyfield or lennox in the hw division in 87, 88 or 89Comment

tyson clearly had ability, just watch reggie gross fight. i not deny he was'nt damn good, he was. but i think holyfield beats him every time, as does lennox
holy was one guy who was'nt scared of mike, he had been every where mike had been, he had stood up 2 mike at olympic trials when mike would hug the pool table & mike backed down, mike was a bully & holy only feared god
with lennox, well mike only struggled with big guys & lennox a much better big guy than all the big guys mike struggled with in his prime. its as simple as thatComment

i hate it when people rate lewis over tyson and talk like he is so much more superior to tyson it sickens meComment

he beat lots of the same guys tyson did, beat the guy who beat tyson twice- twice, & beat tyson himself, wiped ruddock out in two who mike went tooth & nail with twiceOriginally posted by SturmRulesi hate it when people rate lewis over tyson and talk like he is so much more superior to tyson it sickens me
lennox beat them all (bowe, holyfield, tyson, klitschko). hes the best since ali, no questionComment

Lewis fought him when Tyson was WAY OUT OF HIS PRIME, before that fight Tyson had only 5 fights between 97-2002, thats 5 years, he fought Holyfield after he got out of prison, i mean he suffered a lot in his life, and right now he is a completely changed man, i dont even know he put up with stuff, i was reading a book on tyson which was about his story, the biography, personal life, etc.Originally posted by Moschino045tyson clearly had ability, just watch reggie gross fight. i not deny he was'nt damn good, he was. but i think holyfield beats him every time, as does lennox

He was the youngest HW champion ever...in his prime the most feared fighter ever, they did'nt call him the baddest man on the planet for no reason, his career was undermined by serious personal problems, lack of preparation, and periods of imprisonment...Also Spinks was believed to be the most legitimate contender and had never lost a fight before meeting TysonComment

Tyson will always be discredited because he gets so much undeserved credit. The man, as a heavyweight champ, was good. But when people put Mike up on a pedestal it's very easy to shoot him down. When compared with virtually every other heavyweight who will make top 10 people can come up with twice as many reasons Tyson doesn't belong there.
Arguments against Tyson which all hold some water:
Lost to all of the other greats he faced. His only major wins that were impressive come from outdated fighters. He got KTFO'd in his Prime by a guy who was a modest HW. Weak opponents as a whole.
Not many people are true Tyson haters. The man was good heavyweight champ, and you can leave it at that. When people begin to praise him as an all time great is when it becomes so easy to point out his flaws.
And Sturm, there's no way Tyson is higher on an all time HW list than Lewis.Comment
