Comments Thread For: Malignaggi: Joshua-Wilder Could Be Next Heavyweight Trilogy

Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi believes Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder could become the next great heavyweight trilogy - following the path of Evander Holyfield vs. Rid**** Bowe. The two undefeated punchers are looking to fight each other and many hope their showdown will happen this year.

Based purely off what you’ve just said; If Joshua fights Wilder next would you see it as him ducking Povetkin?

Nah, once Wilder smashes AJ's jaw...the wheels will come off his hype train. Hearn will discard him like a used condom.

Hope so. Heavyweight division badly needs it. But FFS now is the time for the first so get on with it. Sandwich in a couple of Wilder - Fury Joshua -Fury clashes too with all the other top guys jockeying for position and fighting each other to have a crack too we could have a few fun years at last watching the big fellas.

no, but this bull**** jumping over the head of your mandos has to stop, we all remember how Crawford suddenly became PFP number one (according to some users here), the other guy (Lipinets) was just ignored, we'll ignore Povetkin too?

I hear you. Mandatory positions are there for a reason and should be upheld to the man that claims it, I agree, but in this situation I really wouldn’t call it a duck for AJ to personally prefer a Wilder bout. If he does prefer a Wilder bout that is.

I don’t think Povetkin should be ‘ignored’ or dismissed, just that it wouldn’t be a duck if Joshua went for Wilder next and I really doubt many fans would think it was a duck if we got that fight next.

I personally think we will get AJ-Povetkin next however. Hearn clearly wants to kill some time and get another fight (or two) before Wilder but mandatories would definitely get in the way by then and we all don’t/shouldn’t want that.

I wouldn’t be shocked if AJ fights Povetkin late summer and then Wilder early 2019. Or at least that’s what they try/claim to try to do.

AJ - Wilder needs to be prioritised though let’s face it.

Lol...Wilder flew to Russia to duck Povetkin, right before he dropped dirty...

Usually when a champion decides to fight another champion, it's called a unification. In rare cases, when the fight happens to be for all 4 belts, it's called Undisputed. The sanctioning bodies ALLOW fighters to bypass mandatories if they are fighting another champion instead.

Interpretation: Povetkin's cheating ass can wait.

Back to topic, this will only be a trilogy if the fans are willing to shell out big bucks to see AJ KO'd three times...i doubt it
