Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo's the Model for What We Want in Our Sport

Oscar De La Hoya addressed a small group of reporters Tuesday at his promotional company's headquarters in Los Angeles. Canelo Alvarez's promoter might as well have been pleading his fighter's case to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Two weeks before Alvarez will meet with the NSAC, the Golden Boy Promotions founder and CEO made an impassioned plea for the public's leniency now that his company's cash cow has withdrawn from one of the biggest fights of his career.

Yeah Caneloterol is a model that should not be followed.

He becomes a very good model for the drug cheaters in boxing that whoever you are, if you cheat using banned substances/drugs then you will be punished/suspended even if you're a boxing star. A very good example to clean up the sport.

The sooner team Canelo stops talking the better. They make themselves look ****** with every statement.

This is that BS I always mention in terms of Canelo. We are being force-fed the notion of him. GBP literally tell us he is the star of the sport. Tell us to accept him as the man.

It’s all fake and shamelessly forced on us. All the controversy and basically corrupt smelling stuff that surrounds him tells me and many other sane fans otherwise. He isn’t the face of boxing. As much as the establishments try to shoehorn us into believing so.

The establishment sees Canelo as the leading Mexican name and with the retirement of Floyd and serious fading of Manny, they WANT Canelo to be the next ‘man’ so desperately. Doesn’t take a genius to see it. Look at this article about DLH for example. Canelo and all those around him have made seriously bad examples of themselves lately yet here Oscar is telling us he is a role model and true representative of the game...F’k off.

We all realize Oscar is all about "damage control" but he's really insulting our intelligence now. What a joke.

I liked Oscar as a fighter, I liked Oscar post Richard leaving GBP when he did all of his "the fights fans want" talk and his feud with Arum....right now I am regretting ever backing this fktard.

De La Hoya has just lost his final cash cow, because his cow supposedly ate a bad cow. The irony. But this coke head would defend a cheater to ensure he doesn't lose out. How ridiculous is this, it's a PR stunt to dim the light on his last big fighter.
