Comments Thread For: Video: Canelo Announces Withdrawal From Golovkin Rematch

Canelo Video, Withdraws From Golovkin Rematch - Canelo Alvarez has withdrawn from next month's middleweight title fight with Gennady Golovkin, two months after Alvarez twice tested for a banned substance. The May 5 fight in Las Vegas was to have been a rematch of the draw they fought last September. But on March 5, Alvarez's promoters, Golden Boy Promotions, announced he twice tested positive for the steroid clenbuterol in February. They blamed contaminated meat, and Alvarez agreed to random drug testing.

Though I do believe it was meat, I am glad the NSAC did what they should be doing. Sucks the fight was canned but at least the right thing happened for the circumstance.
Canelo sees the writing on the wall and pulled out appropriately.

A pity that these circumstances killed this fight. I really wanted to see the rematch but there is a black cloud on it now at this moment.

I have to agree with the cancellation because that tainted mexican meat story just doesn't fly anymore.

It's not the writing on the wall, he is in a no-win situation

This is so crazy. I really wanted to see this rematch but this is bigger than my enjoyment for a good fight. I really hope that this is an honest mistake but unfortunately that's going to be extremely hard to prove unless we're talking about hair samples. BUT.... If they were to take hair samples it would be a good time to do so because I've never seen his hair so long before like it is in the video. With that being said, a hair sample could be his saving grace or proof of doping in the past. Now if he came to this press conference with a buzz cut, my decision would be made.

Losers will be an older slower GGG and Vegas.

Winners: A hungrier pissed Canelo and Jerry Jones (Cowboys Stadium) for being site of rematch. Canelo will not even give ggg a fight this year, ggg likes to scream like a lady make him wait til 2019. Let him earn crumbs in 2018 and remind him he is B side.

I doubt Canelo will give Vegas any future money if they try to use him as an example. Nevada would never have done this to TMT.
