He definitely has a chance, and from what I know he is a great guy and deserves the make it.
The most suspect thing about him is his chin. This may hold him back to be just good but not quite great.Comment

I really think Ward will be a bust. Andre Ward is like alot of fighters I see nowadays, who don't really have ring smarts, just athleticism. Ward does not set up his offense well, has very limited technical skill, and lacks a big punch. On top of that, he's chinny and has defensive liabilities. He reminds me alot of a young Virgil Hill mixed with Zahir Raheem, minus Hill's excellent jab and Raheem's ring awareness. His style is one that can be very effective in the amateurs when you have them big gloves and headgear, but the pro's is a totally different game. His improvisational style won't bring him far, if he intends to fight as a serious contender and not with the udual suspect patsies.Comment

everyone has a chance...but like any boxer's career...he will have his highs and lows...
it is when he gets past the highs and lows...to encounter more highs and lows and highs and lows and highs where we can make judgement
the second he gets hurt again...fans will write him off because of his high expectations...so he will make another impressive performance...maybe win a title...lose...fans write him off.....this is when we find out what he is not only made of...but what he is most concerned about with his career...money or legacy...
the great ones never stop...keep losing...and keep winning...and keep trying...no matter how many times they are written offComment

about Andre seeming green and lacking ring smarts...he is just beginning...unlike a lot of other fighters...he is treated like a 2 time champion in terms of publicity and air time on the big stage [undercards] within his first few fights...
if you've seen many greats in their first couple or few fights...they don't all fight the same way as they fight when they are seasoned pros...Hopkins was green vs Jones after many more fights than Andre...even lost his first fight...but now he known as one of the greatest fighters of all time...one of the smartest...one of the best defensive...etc...
if fighters have athletic ability at the beginning of their career...they are encouraged to use it to get things going...plus that is what they are used to...
they are a work in progress...it just so happens that we are watching Andre from point 1 as a pro
you just cannot "judge to see whether :::blank::: will be great yet"...not until they are great or until they are not...
so many fighters we THOUGHT would become something great...but never live up to potential...and some who "stuck around" longer and better than we expected to become greater than many thoughtLast edited by TyrantT316; 06-17-2006, 05:01 PM.Comment
